Six Fountain Pen Collection

I’ve seen a lot of YouTube videos about the five fountain pens people would keep if they were to sell of their collection or five pens they’d get if they had to start their collection from scratch. So I thought I’d share the six pens I’d keep if I were for some crazy reason required to sell my entire collection. (I’m going with six because the Esterbrook To-Go Cup houses six pens, and I think that’s the pen case I’d keep to house my fountain pens.)

1. Pilot Custom 823 with a Fine Nib

To start, I’d keep my Pilot Custom 823. Most likely I’d keep my transparent 823, but I could also see myself keeping the smoke color. My 823 is my workhorse pen. I use it a lot for general writing and note taking. I love the Pilot fine nib. I love how fine it writes and how it glides across the page. Plus the vacuum fill mechanism houses a ton of ink. I love this pen!

2. Esterbrook Estie with a Journaler Nib

I’d definitely need to keep an Esterbrook Estie. I’d be hard to choose which color I’d keep, but it’d likely be a color that is no longer available. So maybe the Aqua Estie or the Once in the Blue Moon Estie. I’d also chose the Journaler Nib because I love the look that a stub nib provides, and the Journaler nib is much more manageable than a 1.1 stub.

3. TWSBI Mini with an Extra Fine Nib

I’m torn between the TWSBI Vac Mini and the TWSBI Mini for my favorite pen from TWSBI, but I think the Mini wins out for my six pen collection mainly because the Mini is easier to clean. Lol.

4. Kaweco Golden Espresso AL Sport with an Extra Fine Nib

I love my Kaweco Golden Espresso AL Sport. It holds sentimental value as the pen that started my love for fountain pens, but I also think that the AL Sport is the perfect pocket pen.

5. LAMY AL Star with a Fine Nib (plus more nibs)

I’m adding the LAMY AL Star to my collection for two main reasons. Firstly, it’s a pen that’s easy to clean. So it’s perfect for the more stubborn but fun fountain pen inks. Secondly, it’s easy to change the nib. This may be a bit of a cheat, but I’d get multiple nibs for my LAMY if I was only allowed six pens. It would be my go to pen for high shimmer and high sheening inks.

6. Benu Talisman Shooting Star with a Fine Nib

I think Benu pens are so fun, but finding the right one for your personal style is a bit difficult. So I’d definitely keep my Benu Talisman Shooting Star, which was a Goldspot exclusive. It’s the Benu pen that I love most, and it’s probably my most interesting pen of the collection.

Honorable Mention:

If I owned an Esterbrook JR with a Needlepoint nib, I think that would have made the list. The Needlepoint nib is one of my favorite nibs for everyday writing, and I really want one for the JR model. As much as I love the Estie, there’s something about the size of the JR that makes it perfect for me as a daily writer.

What pens would you keep if you could only keep six?
